It’s Here! The CAYP Holiday Party

The College of Saint Rose

Holiday Inn ExpressAs much as we love the holiday season, we know it can mean circling the mall parking lot for hours, a little too much quality time with family and batches of burnt Christmas cookies. Take some time off from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the holiday spirit with the area’s young professionals. Your tree lights may have gone out, but we guarantee this event will be bright.

The party will be at the Holiday Inn Express in Latham. As you can expect, we’ll have food, music and photos on the Albany Alive red carpet. But this year, we’ll have a comedian to lighten things up. Enjoy the comic stylings of the area’s popular Greg Aidala.

Here’s what you need to know:

Location: Holiday Inn Express, 400 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY 12110
Date and Time: December 14th from 7:00pm – 10:00pm
Dress Code: Cocktail Attire

** This event requires that you purchase a ticket beforehand! **

We keep hearing how much you guys enjoy having events in Clifton Park, and so for October CAYP is heading back up 87.

In case you haven’t heard, the new Clifton Park Wheatfields is lovely.  Wheatfields has been a favorite of Saratogians for over 21 years, but with a new location a little closer to the capital city, it’s sure to be a fixture in everyone’s dinner rotation soon. Conveniently located in The Crossing Plaza, Wheatfields is at the intersection of Routes 9 and 146. With a mission to bring the finest local ingredients to guests’ plates, Wheatfield’s chefs proudly support New York farmers & wineries and serve regional products.  Pasta, Pizza, and Breads are made daily on the premises, steaks are hand-cut and house-aged, Chef’s specials are offered nightly. Need I say more?

The combination of Wheatfields’ food and atmosphere, and the legendary CAYP networking is sure to make this one of our best events yet.

We’re excited to see you all there, rumor has it there will even be a fireplace.

September Event Recap – The University Club

University Club Event

CAYP bowling

Bowling in heels. Now, that is skill!

September. For some, it means back to school. For us young professionals, it means back to networking! CAYP kept with the school theme and held this month’s event at the University Club, a historic membership club in downtown Albany. Not only was the night filled with prime networking opportunity, but CAYPers also enjoyed bowling in business clothes in the next room.

Networking in the Capital Region is going to get even better, and we’re not taking all the credit. September’s event was sponsored by a new networking organization, the Professional Networking Group by Candy Marrero. The Professional Networking Group will be another chance to meet professionals in the area from a variety of industries. Check out the CAYP Facebook page for news on upcoming events!

Now, if you haven’t already figured it out, CAYP is a great way to meet new people — especially for those who may be new to the area. Just ask Samuel Filler, economic development specialist:

“As someone who recently moved to Albany from NYC, CAYP seemed like the ideal organization to get plugged into and start meeting new people. The event at the University Club was an excellent introduction to the organization. The members were warm and easy to engage in conversation. Best of all was the bowling!”

University Club Event

A packed room at the University Club of Albany.

School may have sent you home with reading assignments, but CAYP sends you home with freebies. One attendee won a free membership to the University Club, and another won a free pass to attend the Professional Networking Group’s next event. Isn’t it more fun being an adult?

See you by the fireplace at next month’s event at Wheatfields in Clifton Park on October 17th!

CAYP’s June 2012 Networking Event

Capital Bank

How often is it that you get to combine professional networking with horseracing and big-screen TVs at the area’s newest sports facility? You’re right…hardley ever.

CAYP kicked off summer networking at the brand new Clubhouse Race Book on Central Ave. in Albany. The area’s up-and-coming professionals gathered at the 711 Sports Grill, the facility’s own bar and restaurant. CAYPers (c’mon, you know that sounds cool) enjoyed connecting and complimentary pizza…yes, professional and pizza do go together!

Santhosh Xavier, IT Specialist at the NYS Department of State had some positive feedback to share after his first event:

“This was my first time participating in a CAYP gathering. I used try connecting with young, career-focused people through different meetup.com groups, but the experience at CAYP was much more professional. I’m looking forward to future gatherings.”

Capital Bank

Capital Bank is the area's go-to for commercial banking

June’s event was graciously sponsored by Capital Bank, a commercial bank founded by Albany business leaders in 1995. Their mantra is “banking on relationships.” Capital Bank, a returning CAYP sponsor, raffled off a gift basket for our business card drawing. The winner was surely ready for summer after scoring a gift basket filled with snacks such as chips and salsa, a blanket and a bottle of tequila.

Now, I’m not much of a gambler, but I would be willing to bet that our attendees left the evening having made some real, personal connections. And that hunch is based on much more than just a pretty sounding name.

CAYP’s Members-Only Event at Elda’s on Lark

CAYP holds its monthly networking events once a month for three hours. That may seem like enough time to get some quality networking in, but I often find that I still don’t get to chat with everyone I intend on meeting or catching up with.

That’s why CAYP’s quarterly events, which are exclusive for members, are a great addition to the mix. It’s a chance to actually make your way around the whole room.

The second members-only event for 2012 was held on May 30 at Elda’s on Lark. Elda’s offers both upscale dining and a trendy lounge.  As the generous host of our event, Elda’s put out a spread of appetizers to keep us busy munching on throughout the night (I was a huge fan of the spicy mini tacos).

So, what did our members have to say? Aimee Hirz Lemieux, Account Executive at Enterprise car sales gives us her feedback on the event:

“This was my first members-only event and I was very excited to meet and talk with people in a smaller, more intimate setting. Engaging with other young business professionals is so essential in today’s market, so I’m very happy to be a member of CAYP and to have these opportunities. Plus, Elda’s could not have been a more perfect venue!”

CAYP holds its members-only events quarterly. Be sure to check back for more info on our next exclusive members-only gathering.

Make sure you’re signed up as a CAYP member so you can join us at these events, in addition to our monthly networking events.

See you at our next event on June 13th at the Clubhouse Race Book!

CAYP’s Next Members Only Event at Elda’s

Elda's on Lark

It’s here! Not just shortsElda's on Lark and weekends by the pool, but our second members-only event.

Sometimes, a break away from the crowd is needed. But that doesn’t mean CAYP stops networking, it just means we’re keeping it a little more intimate this time.

If you’re a paid member of CAYP, you’re invited to attend our next networking event on Tuesday, May 30th at Elda’s on Lark from 5:30-7pm.

This will be a great opportunity to talk with fellow CAYP members who you didn’t have the chance to catch up with last event. And, as always, it will also be a great opportunity to make real connections with new faces…just like the last members-only event.

Not a paid member? Sign up here so that you’re ready for next Tuesday.

Are you coming? RSVP with jolenenicotina@gmail.com

CAYP Supports Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless

A Taste of Albany 2012
A Taste of Albany 2012

A Taste of Albany 2012 by Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless

On May 3, 2012 CAYP supported Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless’ fundraising event — A Taste of Albany. All event proceeds went to benefit Interfaith’s mission to provide critical programs and services to homeless individuals and families in Albany. Some of the programs Interfaith provides include emergency shelters, drop-in centers and summer youth activities. Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless also works to prevent homelessness by teaching life skills and self-sufficiency.

The event took place at the New York State Museum terrace gallery. A culinary showcase was the focus of the event, including food from several local restaurants such as Yono’s, Creo, Coccadotts, Brown’s Brewing Company and more. CAYP was a proud sponsor, alongside other local organizations such as Price Chopper, News Channel 13, CAP COM Federal Credit Union, CDPHP, Crisafulli Brothers, SEFCU and more.

For more information about Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, please visit their website here.

CAYP’s April 2012 Event at Albany Institute of History and Art

AIHA mummy

CAYP events welcome professionals of all ages

Networking may be about making new connections, but there was something nostalgic in the air at CAYP’s last event. That would’ve been Albany’s very own ancient Egyptian mummy. A change of scenery brought Capital Region’s young professionals to the Albany Institute of History and Art (AIHA).

While socializing over mini reubens and fried green beans, attendees browsed AIHA’s latest exhibit – Great, Strange and Rarely Seen: Objects from the Vault. A rich resource to the city of Albany, the AIHA is made possible by the generous support of Lynette and Michael Tucker.

The event brought many new faces as CAYP welcomed Hudson Valley Community College’s Alumni Association. We’re pretty sure that after their first CAYP experience, they’re hooked!

This month’s event sponsor was Berkshire Bank, whose representatives were excited to share the news about their newest branch opening on Wolf Road as well as their Android giveaway (plus $100 towards your first cell phone bill) for new customers. Branch manager Alison Parrow shared: “The contacts that were made at this event have become resources for both parties, because in today’s world people like to do business with those they meet face-to-face.”

As you may know, CAYP devotes its resources to supporting the local charities our members are invested in. What makes it even better is when we get to give away the chance for CAYP members to celebrate with us. One winner of the business card drawing received two tickets to Seton Health’s Hopscotch and Slide – a CAYP-sponsored event to benefit the hospital’s pediatric unit on April 28th. Didn’t win tickets? CAYP members get a discounted rate. Check it out here.

And yes, there was more. A second winner of the business card drawing received two tickets to another CAYP sponsored event, Whitney M. Young Jr. Health Service’s Rock the Runway for Health on May 18th. Get your own tickets here.

May is going to be prime time for fun, professional networking. Make sure you join us at Peddler’s in Clifton Park for our next event on May 17th. Members: $0 Nonmembers: $10. Psst…they have a patio, and I have a hunch for good weather.
