CAYP events welcome professionals of all ages

Networking may be about making new connections, but there was something nostalgic in the air at CAYP’s last event. That would’ve been Albany’s very own ancient Egyptian mummy. A change of scenery brought Capital Region’s young professionals to the Albany Institute of History and Art (AIHA).

While socializing over mini reubens and fried green beans, attendees browsed AIHA’s latest exhibit – Great, Strange and Rarely Seen: Objects from the Vault. A rich resource to the city of Albany, the AIHA is made possible by the generous support of Lynette and Michael Tucker.

The event brought many new faces as CAYP welcomed Hudson Valley Community College’s Alumni Association. We’re pretty sure that after their first CAYP experience, they’re hooked!

This month’s event sponsor was Berkshire Bank, whose representatives were excited to share the news about their newest branch opening on Wolf Road as well as their Android giveaway (plus $100 towards your first cell phone bill) for new customers. Branch manager Alison Parrow shared: “The contacts that were made at this event have become resources for both parties, because in today’s world people like to do business with those they meet face-to-face.”

As you may know, CAYP devotes its resources to supporting the local charities our members are invested in. What makes it even better is when we get to give away the chance for CAYP members to celebrate with us. One winner of the business card drawing received two tickets to Seton Health’s Hopscotch and Slide – a CAYP-sponsored event to benefit the hospital’s pediatric unit on April 28th. Didn’t win tickets? CAYP members get a discounted rate. Check it out here.

And yes, there was more. A second winner of the business card drawing received two tickets to another CAYP sponsored event, Whitney M. Young Jr. Health Service’s Rock the Runway for Health on May 18th. Get your own tickets here.

May is going to be prime time for fun, professional networking. Make sure you join us at Peddler’s in Clifton Park for our next event on May 17th. Members: $0 Nonmembers: $10. Psst…they have a patio, and I have a hunch for good weather.

March brought the Capital District some unusually warm weather, but that wasn’t the only thing piping hot last week. CAYP made its way to Downtown Albany’s iconic Jack’s Oyster House – our second visit since CAYP’s inception. In addition to hosting the evening, Jack’s donated at $50 gift certificate for the winner of our business card drawing.

As with every other CAYP event, new faces were plentiful. First-time attendee Ermel Hadzic  of the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District was impressed with his first experience, “I had an incredible time. I’ll admit I was a little nervous at first, but being surrounded by people similar in age and career level definitely made it easier. I think CAYP did a tremendous job in providing an outlet for young professionals to make connections.”

This month’s event was made possible by our sponsor CAP COM Federal Credit Union, whose specialty is member-focused service.

“CAYP’s event at Jack’s provided a prime opportunity for us to speak one-on-one with prospective members about our products, service and convenience. We were also able to generate awareness about events benefiting the CAP COM Cares Foundation.  This is our second time sponsoring a CAYP event and the exposure undoubtedly results in a return on investment.” – Carie Sala, Business Development Manager.

Next month’s CAYP event will be held on April 18th at the Albany Institute of History and Art from 6-9pm. Entrance is free for members and $10 for non-members. Not already a member? Sign up here.

CAYP’s First Members Event

CAYP members at Athos event

In order to bring Capital Region professionals even more networking, CAYP held its first members-only event on February 22nd, 2012 at Athos restaurant in Guilderland, NY. The event was a success with nearly 40 CAYP members in attendance. The intimate atmosphere was the perfect opportunity to catch up with someone you may have missed at the last monthly event.

“As much as I enjoy every CAYP event, it was a nice change of pace to have a smaller gathering in order to reinforce some of the relationships that have made my CAYP membership such a good investment.” – Chris Wessell, CAYP member

Much of the success of our first member’s event was due to our host – Athos restaurant. Not only did they provide an assortment of appetizers from their menu, but Athos also invites all CAYP members back to receive buy-one-get-one drink specials every Thursday. Each week, they will have live music from a variety of genres. Just let the staff know you are a CAYP member in order to receive this exclusive member’s perk.

If you’re not already a CAYP member, sign up here for the low annual cost of $50!

If we haven’t seen you lately, make sure to catch the next CAYP event at Albany’s popular Jack’s Oyster House. The event will be March 22, 2012 from 6:00pm – 9:0opm. The cost is $0 for members, $10 for non-members.
